Robot Granted Citizenship in Saudi

Sophia, an artificially intelligent robot, made regional headlines this week when she was chosen to moderate a session at the landmark Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh. She’s also making another record as the world’s first recognized robot after Saudi Arabia announced they were granting her citizenship. Sophia is designed to look like late American actress, Audrey Hepburn, her creator Dr. David Hanson, founder of Hanson Robotics said.

“I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction,” Sophia told the audience during her presentation, which was moderated by CNBC Squawk Box co-anchor and New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.”

Sophia was designed in Audrey Hepburn’s image, with high cheekbones and a slender nose.
